The twenty-fourth year has begun

The most noticeable change will probably be swapping out the greedy carrier phone number. Besides that, I’ve made a final decision — I’m going home. Capital-H HOME.

There’s so much unfinished drinking business waiting there. True, most of it has already collapsed or is well on its way, but that’s all the more reason to charge through the off-road chaos and general sloppiness!

Fulfill the five-year plan in three years! Hooray for the rise of agriculture! We shall build communism on one individual street!

And so on in the same spirit. If god grants me internet access — I’ll write up mein kampf with illustrations. For now there’s only a short To-Do list, posted here specifically for the purpose of crossing items off as they get done (or abandoned, or ignored).

  1. Ubuntu / Kubuntu. Supposedly decent, but painfully long-to-compile Linuxes. The first one already arrived by mail and the disc is gathering dust waiting its turn. The second should be coming from the Netherlands sometime.

  2. FreeBSD.

  3. Install StoneWall. The old fence has failed to meet the security requirements against the growing population of hackers, crackers, bluebackers, alcoholackers, and other riffraff. Upgrading the WoodWall to a metal-slate construction is in the plan.

  4. Patch the roof. The system has been linked for a long time, discovered holes have been gradually patched, but the kernel developer suspects a deep architectural review is needed — some modules may need updating, possibly with partial replacement.

  5. as well as everything else that may be required hereafter. (c) Ilf, Petrov.
