spring

Starting today, spring has arrived for us: earthworks completed earthworks begun, the house is being chipped away at for repainting, we are clearing rubbish from the garden plots and burned it at night. Hot water (autonomous) is a bit lacking, and cold water — which is also still absent — is expected to appear any moment now.

I pulled out the bicycle, replaced the tyre on the rear wheel, rode around a bit — still a bit chilly, but manageable if you don’t push too hard. I need to think about getting a second bike, otherwise I suspect someone will want to claim this one :)

We rented a house — extra space to work in: it also needs painting/whitewashing, and the yard and interior need tidying. We want to get a dog (though honestly I’m not too keen on the idea, but I’m pondering what breed I might like. Those yard mutts feel somehow unserious — you need something substantial… but then it’ll eat like a calf… and a puppy is no use at all…)

The new house has no internet, and the telecom provider has run out of ports. Although I haven’t moved yet (and won’t for a while), it worries me. How am I going to be offline? Especially now that I’m on vacation. A friend lives nearby, he has a Wi-Fi router — maybe if I build some kind of external antenna it’ll reach… we’ll see. Really, all I need is shell access to a torrent box with a big hard drive, and to drop something off for watching once a week.

Speaking of watching — I’ve gotten hooked on The Big Bang Theory, which I recommend to all my friends. A very funny show, and it’s well received by the better half too.

So that’s it. Tomorrow’s plan: sawing the mulberry tree, scraping the house… something else will definitely come up :) There’s a photo of me in a mask, safety goggles, and holding a drill (industrial-style, so to speak) — I’ll post it.

A pile of unlistened podcasts has accumulated, mostly Radio-T. In their show notes I read (haven’t listened yet) that Last.fm is going to go paid (3 euros/month). That’s bad, because thanks to that service I stopped having to ask myself “what to listen to”. It’s still playing for now, but I’m already looking at alternatives.

No time for studying (in the master’s programme), and there’s also a local competition on Thursday — need to prepare. And in general, a lot of social loose ends have piled up: friends I want to reach out to, but it keeps getting postponed. That’s life with a loved one :) — but the advantages still outweigh everything ;)
